Greetings sports fans...a couple of meetings combined with a FLAT TIRE on my little car have me running around like a headless chicken here this morning. Heading out now to get the tire fixed, then have a 12:30 lunch meeting so look for our Tuesday "News on the Run" installment later on in the day.

One quick news note...The Iowa Caucuses are tonight, which means having to hear about everything Iowa is almost at an end! YEA! This is your ace reporter signing out for now from downtown Mountaindale NY.

The (un)Natural Gas Lie...Ours Is a SAFE Industry, Our Gas Clean, and Green

If you listen to the Natural Gas Industry propaganda, watch their carefully orchestrated commercials in the communities being TARGETS for FRACKING, they will have you believe theirs is a safe industry, their product both CLEAN and GREEN.  I did a cursory Google Search, by no means comprehensive in nature, but rather to show our readers just how easy it is to find example after example of just how UNSAFE Natural Gas wells are.

LOOKING TO GET MORE INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST FRACKING?

Sullivan County's Future with Natural Gas Fracking
I live in Sullivan County New York...a place in the big picture of shale gas that is GROUND ZERO when it comes to FRACKING FOR NATURAL GAS in the Marcellus Shale because of the thickness of the vein that runs through our lands (some estimates put it at over 300 foot).  Sullivan county is some of the most historical and pristine land one would ever hope to enjoy...I discovered the beauty of the place back about six years ago when I started coming up each summer as a seasonal camper.  I got to know the people, found a great sense of community here, and took up residence.  It was after I moved into the area while attending a Slow Foods event that I became aware of the issue of Fracking thanks to the people at Catskill Citizens, who have been the leaders of the Frack Fight here in our area for quite some time.

We all know that the fight is gearing up, and that it is going to get a lot costlier in so many ways as David (our small rural communities) take on Goliath (the big Natural Gas companies and their BILLIONS of dollars) as we try to protect a way of life, try to protect our pristine lands and water resources, as well as the human health of our inhabitants.

Catskill Citizens is looking for additional grassroots activists, is looking for people with ideas and energy.  If you are a person living in the southern teir of New York (Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester, Dutchess counties as example, or anyone living in New York City as we supply your fresh beautiful drinking water supply from our watershed) and have been wanting to get involved in this important Social/Health issue, would encourage you to Contact Catskill Citizens, or attend their Volunteer's Meeting on May 1st, 2011.

869 North Branch-Hortonville Road
North Branch, New York 12766
(845) 482-5925
Meeting Time:
11 AM on Sunday May 1

Bring your ideas, energy, and enthusiasm. Whatever skills you have can be put to good use. Remember, Catskill Citizens is an all-volunteer organization! For more information, contact: info@catskillcitizens.org or call (845) 468 7063.

Will It Take Armed Citizens Banning Together To Stop The Natural Gas Fracking?

This is not a rhetorical question...we can see numerous examples of citizens forced to let Natural Gas companies RAPE THEIR LAND...you even watch industry PROPAGANDA video, and they proudly admit to doing horizontal hydraulic fracking a FULL MILE from their well heads.  here in NY if a leasing company can get 60 percent of the land (based on acreage...not land owners) will allow them to FRACK THE OTHER 40 PERCENT over land owners objections.   Watch this video...citizens cannot even own ANYTHING UNDER THEIR LAND....THE STATE DOES!...they sell the leases, and property owners get a pittance, and a fist full of problems.  What steps in this neighbor against neighbor FRACKING WARwill communities have to take to protect their property, their water their health?  It is a question each community must make, and sadly, sooner rather than later, as the GAS ROBBER BARONS are coming to a town near you.

Fracking is becoming a common method of natural gas extraction in shale formations throughout the U.S. including:

The Marcellus shale, which extends from New York State, though Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and into parts of Ohio, Maryland and Virginia;
the Haynesville-Bossier shale in Louisiana and Texas;
the Fayetteville shale in northern Arkansas and adjoining states;
the Barnett shale in Texas;
the Eagle Ford shale, in south Texas;
the Woodford shale, in Oklahoma and Texas.

@ over on Twitter...a Natural Gas Landman and Pro Natural Gas ZEALOT apparently did not appreciate my play on words when I used banning...but then, what would one expect from someone who so easily lies to people to get their signature on a land lease?

Shale Gas Drilling-We Will Kill Your Water
OK, no one wants to listen to the words of a long haired RADICAL FRINGE ENVIRONMENTALIST...I mean we are tree huggers, eat Tofu, and wear funny looking shoes.  So, don't listen too us when it comes to the issue of Hydraulic Fracturing...INSTEAD, READ THE WORDS PRINTED IN THE ANNUAL REPORT of a major supplier of High Pressure Hydraulic Fracturing to the (un)Natural Gas Industry...they come right out and ADMIT their operations POSE RISKS to our soils, and our water.  (Frac Tech Services...Chesapeake Energy owns a stake in this company)

Breaking News...House of Representives Getting Shale Gas Education?

This just in from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette...House getting Shale Gas education, most members of this new group from the three states that will most likely be effected by it...question is, are they really getting educated, or are Lobbyists from the Shale Gas Industry doing most of the supposed educating?  Watch the members CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FOR YOUR ANSWER!

House getting shale education

WASHINGTON -- The House Marcellus Shale caucus, chaired by Reps. Mark Critz, D-Johnstown, and Tom Reed, R-N.Y., held its first meeting Friday, an informational briefing for members conducted by the Congressional Research Service.

Mr. Critz and Mr. Reed conceived the group as an effort to educate members and the public on the massive natural gas play. The caucus has 17 members from Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia -- the states that sit atop the play.

"This initial meeting offered an opportunity for us to get organized and to begin mapping out a procedural outline for the caucus," Mr. Critz said in a statement. "The various issues surrounding Marcellus Shale exploration have far-reaching impacts on our districts, and I am pleased that we are moving forward."
