As Promised...Tuesday "News on the Run"

Cannot believe it is just after seven in the evening, and I am just getting time to come back here and put up the Tuesday "News on the Run". It has been a hectic and busy day, but one that could be very rewarding as this new year unfolds. To early to say anything further on it, but there are good things out on the horizon.

In local news, it is COLD AS HELL outside today...I mean bone chilly, numb fingers COLD outside. Which might explain why the town of Fallsburg had a crew out by 21 Main Street replacing a part of the water supply line today. Should have taken them out a pot of hot coffee, as those guys work really hard on behalf of all the citizens in the Geographical foot print of Fallsburg, our hamlet a part thereof.

In national news, it is ALL ABOUT IOWA...give us a break please. It is a close race right now with Santorum in the lead, Mitt in second, and Ron Paul in third. All this for a winner that is going to end up with MAYBE 25,000 votes. Again I have to ask...has the time come to push Iowa and their caucus to the back burner of national politics right along with New Hampshire?

Will see everyone in the AM....been a very long day, and I really could care less who wins in Iowa.

"News on The Run" Later in Day

Greetings sports fans...a couple of meetings combined with a FLAT TIRE on my little car have me running around like a headless chicken here this morning. Heading out now to get the tire fixed, then have a 12:30 lunch meeting so look for our Tuesday "News on the Run" installment later on in the day.

One quick news note...The Iowa Caucuses are tonight, which means having to hear about everything Iowa is almost at an end! YEA! This is your ace reporter signing out for now from downtown Mountaindale NY.

Happy 2012 Everyone, and "News on the Run"

Give Iran Credit...This site looks safer than Entergy's Indian Point.

Welcome to the first day of a brand New Year...let all of us around the world pray that this year is a far better one than 2011 was. The weather here in Mountaindale is still unseasonably warm, and we so far have dodged the winter snows we are so used to seeing by now. Don't want to say it, but if we continue on in this fashion, though I would welcome the mild winter, one has to let one's thought wonder to Global Warming and Climate Change. Perhaps it is time we as a world society embrace the concept (as relates to consumption of goods) that less is more. As relates to FRACKING, perhaps we have to accept that we cannot afford a alternative energy source that creates far more methane than other fuel sources while at the same time contaminating our fresh drinking water supplies.
Getting abundant natural gas through hydraulic fracturing contributes to global warming as much as coal, if not more, according to a study quoted by political news website TheHill.com.
New Year's Day "News on the Run"

Guess the first big news story is the fact that this is the first "News on the Run" segment of 2012. We thank all of our loyal readers, who in the first two months have pushed our readership up over 1000 unique visitors a month. We look forward to providing you a lot of great content this year, and in years to come.

The Iowa Caucuses
...OMG, can we please get it all over with. It really is time for all involved to admit that Iowa and New Hampshire are two little tiny states that do not deserve the amount of attention they get from politicians and the National Press every four years. If these two states represented lets say 4 percent of America's population, maybe an argument could be made for them going first, but the two states combined represent less than two percent of America's population...New York city alone almost has almost twice the number of citizens as the two states combined...yet, we get FEW VISITS from Presidential Candidates here in our state. As to picking a winner in this Ugly Duckling contest...the state loves tossing down surprises, so going to go Santorum, Mitt and then Ron Paul...big surprise might be that Newt does not even garner 4th place.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blinked, and backed down on his threat to block the Hormus Straight is again saber rattling, this time using Iran's Cental Bank.
“The central bank is the backbone of dealing with the enemies’ pressure and it must with strength and self-confidence have the solidity to eliminate all of the enemies’ plots,” he told the bank’s governing board, according to a statement on the presidency website.

Perhaps 2012 is already shaping up as the year "The Middle East Burns". Start looking at the map, and most of the Middle Eastern nations are in political shambles, governments already toppled, or in fear of being toppled. In Bahrain, police used brute force against anti-government protesters after a teen's politically charged funeral.
"MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) -- Riot police in Bahrain fired tear gas, rubber bullets and stun grenades as they clashed Sunday with hundreds of opposition supporters..."
Meanwhile, over in Syria the supposed impartial Middle Eastern Observers there seem to be playing the part of the three monkeys who hear, see and speak no evil again the Syrian President and his troops who are ruthlessly attacking and killing innocent citizens.
An Arab League advisory body has called for the immediate withdrawal of the organisation's monitoring mission in Syria, saying it is allowing Damascus to cover up violence and abuses.
In yet more disturbing news from Iran...seems they have produced their first ENRICHED Uranium Fuel Rod. If they can make a fuel rod, they can created highly enriched (bomb grade) materials for us in a NUCLEAR BOMB. Holy Shit batman! Our own Gaseous Diffusion plants in Portsmouth, Ohio and Padukah, Kentucky allowed America to be a leader in both the nuclear arms race, and in the Nuclear Energy Industry...Iran having the capability to make fuel rods is a disturbing bit of news heading into 2012. Couple this with their overtures to Iraq, and this is a situation the whole world should be paying close attention to.

In shades of 2011 all over again, a 7.0 Earthquake hit Japan shaking buildings, and given every one a scare to state the new year off with.
A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck under the sea south of Japan on Sunday, shaking buildings in the capital but causing no apparent damage or tsunami.
Speaking of Earthquakes, seems Fracking is causing more earthquakes, this time in Ohio. Do hope that New York DEC is paying attention...just imagine Fracking causing an earthquake along the the Fault Line that Indian Point's nuclear reactors sit atop of...WAKE UP FOLKS!
McDONALD, Ohio (AP) — Officials said Saturday they believe the latest earthquake activity in northeast Ohio is related to the injection of wastewater into the ground near a fault line, creating enough pressure to cause seismic activity.
It is beautiful here in Mountaindale today, and hope everyone has a great start to this new year.

Happy 2012 everyone!

Friday "News on the Run" As 2011 Comes Closer To The End

First up...our weather here in downtown Mountaindale again seems to be a constantly moving target as yesterdays prediction of snow for the New Year now seems to be nice weather today, maybe some rain tomorrow, and a small chance of snow on Sunday. We shall see what we shall see, but right now, does not seem like we are going to get hammered like yesterdays weather forecast suggested we would be. Must be nice to have a job where you get paid for being wrong most of the time. Looking on the bright side, got to go out and take some wonderful photographs...yes, the one in this post is one of them.

Friday "News on the Run"

So, is your 401K heavily invested in the stock market? Good news of sorts...the Dow ended up for the year 5.5 percent. The bad news...if you are my age, you can remember when passbook savings account paid ALMOST THAT MUCH of a return on your investment. The Nasdaq did not fare as well, ending the year down almost two percent...OUCH.

Another piece of bad news for the Natural Gas Industry, and a piece of news the state of New York should pay attention too...Nature Gas futures end the year DOWN 32 Percent. So much for the promise of a pot of gold sitting at the bottom of a FRACKED WELL. Ban Fracking now folks before Chesapeake Energy poisons our water supply, and is TOO BROKE TO FIX IT.

Iowa professor speaks the truth
...Iowa has NO BUSINESS being the center of political universe here in America when it comes to picking presidential candidates. Lets pull the plug on this vile experiment, and give ALL AMERICANS fair access to the politicians.

Under news heading of, "Who Cares" seems that Newt got all teary eyed out on the campaign trail today.

In Syria, Arab League fact-finding mission participants must be blind...HELLO, the president is not keeping the peace, the president and his troops are ATTACKING citizens. Lets get on with implementing a No-Fly zone.

Hump Day "News on the Run"

OMG...was watching TV today, and they were showing off some of the new CONCEPT CARS, and one sent me into a covetous "I WANT THAT" rage!...Have you seen the new VW Bulli microbus? It is so freaking hippie ass COOL, and though there is no guarantee it will be put into production (rumor has it being in production in 2014) I am so wanting one of these! There is just enough of the retro old school feel to it to make it, in my mind, an instant must have vehicle for a lot of us old diehard hippies and Baby Boomers, while being equipped with enough modern luxuries to see it embraced by the younger set.

In other "News on the Run"

So, think the economy is turning around, and that things are going to get better for the American worker in 2012? Think again...new report states that a mere 25 percent of companies have plans to employ additional workers in the coming year...in short, look for slow or little hiring.

Rivals tend to see Go Daddy pay a huge price for their original support of SOPA, and it is this bloggers hope that a whole lot of people give Go Daddy the proverbial finger as they take their business elsewhere...Go Daddy's Super Bowl commercials were not THAT GOOD.

Tiger Woods ex-Mistress is pregnant...relax folks, it's not his. Which begs the question, is this really worthy of newsprint? Mercury News seems to think it is.

Only in Iowa...pay attention folks, and ask yourselves why the rest of America does not get this kind of attention. Iowans today have TWENTY TWO chances to meet a Presidential candidate up close and personal. Excuse us presidential candidates, but how about SHARING THE LOVE.

Should Iowa Caucuses Be Pushed To Back Burner

For as long as I can remember, the Iowa Caucuses and the state of Iowa have been allowed to be the center of our Presidential Primary process here in America though in reality, their being the center of attention only came about in 1972, with Republicans in the state following suit in 1976. Until then, they were at best a state that simply did not matter, and perhaps it is time we return to those days, rather than allowing them to garner the majority of the attention on the Presidential political stage as the Presidential kabuki dance unfolds every four years. Presidential pretenders and contenders beat a path to Iowa, spend vast amounts of their time there, the national media acting as if the state and its voters matter...but serious, do they? Does Iowa truly deserve all the attention they garner by insisting THEY GO FIRST? In a word, no.

First, Iowa (the entire state) has a population of less than 3 million citizens, which represents less than one percent of the population of the United States. Political pundits are telling us this week that only 125,000 citizens of Iowa will participate in the Iowa Caucus process. All this political attention given to a state where less than FIVE PERCENT of their citizens bother to participate despite all the attention they have received? The rest of us being told Iowa deserves all this attention because they take the process far more seriously than the rest of us do...HELLO, WE ARE TALKING FIVE PERCENT of their voters bother to show up. More importantly, those bothering to even attend the Iowa Caucuses that start at 7PM this coming week represent less than 1/10th of one percent of America!

We here in Mountaindale are a rural community, and if we had a coffee shop, sure all of us would love having a chat with say Mitt or Newt on politics, having Ron Paul or Michele Bachmann (OK, not Michele) coming into Ed's Mountaindale Inn for one of his cheeseburgers and a cold beer...I mean surely we deserve the same kind of Presidential Candidate attention that the citizens of Iowa receive? Sure, we are only a hamlet of less than six hundred people, but what about our state as a whole when compared to Iowa?

How about if New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio all hold our primaries on the same day, and IN JANUARY! We can call them the Pony Primaries. Surely that move would push Iowa back into the backwaters of political attention getting where they had resided for forever (well, forever until 1972), where perhaps they actually belong. Isn't it time to give equal access to the candidates to those of us living in states where we have FAR MORE VOTERS where the populations of our states represent more than just one percent of the people?

Let's be clear here...contrary to what Iowa and the pundits would have us believe, in the big picture of American Politics, Iowa should not matter, nor should we believe they are the predictors of just who we should vote for. Seriously...if they select Ron Paul as their torch bearer, should the rest of the nation fall into lockstep and follow their lead? Even if it is Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich, does it really matter, should the rest of us care that less than 1/10th of one percent of American voters like a particular candidate? Let's stop this nonsense, and lets end this charade that allows Iowa to be the center of America's political Universe for a full year.

By the way...based upon the candidates being offered up by the Republicans, Obama WILL GET A SECOND TERM...yes, that is my prediction.

Mitt says, "No Fox News, I am not a Romeny!"

I may be Mormon, but not a Romeny
Romeny Says No to Gingrich Debate (Newsmax.com)  A Whoopsy Moment for Fox News, or for Newsmax.  Found this link rather funny...Romeny says no to Gingrich...not sure who made the blunder, but if you go look at the article title they got it right which leads me to believe the folks at Fox News screwed up.  Too see the error, go to the story on Boehner and look down at their "Also on Web" section.  Maybe Fox News was letting Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol do data entry again.

BETHLEHEM, N.H.  — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Thursday spurned chief rival Newt Gingrich's challenge for a one-on-one debate in the run up to the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses but dismissed the notion — suggested by the former House speaker — that he was afraid to participate in such a face-off.
