Volunteers Needed in Margaretville

LinkFor those looking to volunteer, wanting to give a hand in helping folks dig out and recover after Hurricane Irene, the folks in Margaretville area can sure use some help. Many of us may not realize it, but saw on CNN today that 600 families in the Catskill's lost their homes during this natural disaster, and am convinced that number will grow as more homes get inspected. So, if you have gloves, rakes and shovels, and are looking for a worthwhile project to donate your time to, please contact these folks and drive over too lend them a hand.

Volunteers Needed in Margaretville-Original Article

Our Margaretville correspondent reports that many buildings outside town, ones that house a lot of poor and elderly folk, are condemned and structurally unsound. They’re looking for volunteers to come to the Catskills and assist the elderly who “need help cleaning their homes of mud and others whose homes are awaiting inspection where they will need help either with cleaning or getting the stuff out if it’s condemned.” Volunteers should bring rakes, shovels and old gloves.

Help will be needed, she says, through the end of next week long after people forget the disaster.

Money donations can continued to be made through the MARK project (If you send a check, mark that it’s for flood/hurricane relief):
