Marc Black's BIO...from his own site:
Marc Black, a Kerrville 'New Folk' finalist, is one of those rare songwriters who can express humor, social awareness and tenderness side by side in his songs. Sometimes in the same song.
Marc has been deeply involved in fighting hydro-fracking and has recorded a song with John Sebastian, Eric (dueling banjos) Weissberg and a hundred citizens singing along on the chorus! His newly released music video, I Love You Rachel Maddow, has been viewed more than 6,000 times!
His most recent CD, Pictures of the Highway was #34 for the year on the National Folk DJ Chart. One tune, Ooh I Love My Coffee, got as high as #6 and was named Folk Song of the Year on ABC Radio's Fame Games. And Marc was named Folk Artist of the Year.
The Marc Black Band currently features amazing players including John Sebastian from the Lovin' Spoonful, Warren Bernhardt from Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Parker from the Joe Cocker Band and Mike Esposito from the Blues Magoos! He's also recorded with a host of luminaries including Art Garfunkel, Richie Havens, and Taj Mahal.
Marc has explored many unusual avenues with his songwriting. His Stroke of Genius CD, that was based on the poetry of a stroke survivor who was in a coma for 21 days and only woke up after his doctors had pulled life support. Marc produced a documentary film of this experience and he's been traveling all across the Country presenting this work to stroke and aphasia support groups.
When Marc was still in high school, his band, the 'Blades of Grass', had a top forty hit and toured with the Doors and Van Morrison. Next stop was Woodstock, NY where he lived in Tim Hardin's house and put together a band that attracted world famous musicians and a dedicated following.
He's recorded more than a dozen CD's, including a ‘pick hit’ in Billboard Magazine, and another recognized as a ‘minor masterpiece’ by famed music A&R man, John Hammond Sr. and a childrens album, recorded with Richie Havens and Taj Mahal, that was awarded Best of the Year honors by the American Library Association.
Happy Traum recently wrote about Marc's new CD, Pictures of the Highway…'Foot-tapping grooves, excellent playing, top notch guitar and vocals…Marc's songs are timeless."
